Mays Ranching Company, Inc.

The calves pictured here are Charolais-sired.  Dams are Brangus or Brangus/Hereford-cross cows.  These calves were born from mid-November 1999 through late January 2000.  At marking time in March bull calves were castrated with a knife and all calves were dehorned.  The calves were vaccinated against Clostridium sp. and Hemophilus sp. using Pfizer's Ultrabac 7/Somubac, 5 cc, subcutaneously; 2 cc of TSV-2 (Pfizer) were also administered by the intranasal route.

Consisting of 97 steers and 89 heifers, this group of calves was weaned August 25, 2000.  At that time the calves were re-vaccinated with Ultrabac7/Somubac, 5 cc, subcutaneously.  They were vaccinated against IBR, PI3, BVD, and BRSV using Pfizer's Bovishield-4, 2 cc, intramuscularly; immunity against Pasteurella sp. was accomplished utilizing Prizer's One Shot, 2 cc, subcutaneously.  All vaccines were administered in the muscle or under the skin in the neck area in front of the point of the shoulder.  Also, at weaning the calves were dewormed with 7 cc or Synanthic (Ft. Dodge), orally.

These calves will be given a booster injection of Bovishield-4, 21-28 days post-weaning.

Following weaning, the calves have been placed on Kleingrass fields and are being supplemented with a brewer's grain-based ration hand fed daily in open troughs.
