Mays Ranching Company, Inc.

Pictured here is a group of calves that will be sold and delivered right off their mamas between September 15, and September 25, 2000.  Top quality Charolais bulls sired all these calves.  As pictured, approximately 40-45% of the calves were born to crossbred cows; the remaining 55-60% have Brangus or Brangus/Hereford cross dams.  All of the calves will exhibit less than 25% Brahman influence but the calves out of Brangus and Brangus whiteface cows are influenced by one-eighth or less Brahman blood.

There will be 450-475 head of these calves, approximately half steers and half heifers.  Steers should average 735-750 lbs. in weight and heifers should weigh 35-40 lbs. less.

These calves will be delivered over a period of four days.  Weighing conditions will be fair for both byer and seller.  All calves will be weighed on the ground over ranch scales.  Calves trapped and gathered near scales will get a 3% pencil shrink; calves driven or hauled several miles to scales will be shrunk 1.5%.

Born from mid-November 1999 through late January 2000, this is a very uniform offering of calves.  At branding in March, the calves were vaccinated with Ultrabac 7/Somubac (Pfizer), 5 cc, subcutaneously, and TSV-2 (Pfizer), 2cc, by intranasal route.  They were all dehorned and the bull calves were castrated with a knife.  In addition to direct calf vaccination, immunity to the shipping fever complex is enhanced by passive immunity from the dams through annual cow herd vaccination.
