Mays Ranching Company, Inc.

The set of calves pictured below this text, with few exceptions, were born to home raised Brangus and Brangus whiteface cows. Ninety-five to ninety-seven percent (95-97%) were sired by top quality purebred Charolais bulls; Angus or Brangus bulls sired 3-5 %. This cowherd has been developed through careful selection and purchase of genetically superior herd sires from some of the top purebred Brangus breeders in the nation. Purchased female replacements have been selected in similar fashion. When making replacement selections, particular emphasis has been placed on mothering ability, rapid maturity, gaining efficiency, carcass value, musculoskeletal development, structural soundness, and phenotype.

We believe that the health and quality of our commercial herd is unsurpassed anywhere. Herd health and management has always been priority one in our ranching operation.

These calves, when compared to the industry average, provide a number of desirable and stylish qualities. To begin, they stand on more than adequate circumference of bone. Furthermore, they exhibit more pounds per day of age than that of the industry average, which is due in part, to the influence from strong selection. Good breed character is demonstrated by the refinement in female characteristics exhibited in the heifers; and, the masculinity exhibited in the steers. Both steers and heifers have tremendous spring of rib and depth of body accompanied by an impressive degree of muscling in the hindquarter. These qualities are readily evident when the calves are viewed broadside or from the rear. Moreover, they don’t show to be wasty being relatively trim around the dewlap and clean in the brisket. For these reasons, we believe this set of preconditioned calves to beget carcasses that will produce a higher percentage of lean retail cuts than the average calf in the industry.
